Ghana 2024 Elections: VP Bawumia Accepts Defeat, Jubilants Flood Streets

Ghanaian Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia, has conceded defeat in Ghana’s 2024 elections and has congratulated former President, John Mahama.

In a concession speech delivered on Sunday, Mr Bawumia, stated that internal data from his party indicates that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has secured victory in both the presidential and parliamentary polls.

Jubilant supporters of opposition candidate John Mahama have been celebrating on the streets across the country.

Despite this, the Ghana electoral Commission is yet to officially announce the result, but supporters of the NDC took to the streets in Jubilation.

In another development, Ghana’s general election has recorded violence, with one person fatally shot and another wounded at a polling station in Nyankpala.

Police had earlier said one person has been shot dead at a polling station in Northern Ghana during the presidential and parliamentary elections.

It happened at a polling station in the northern town of Nyankpala, where police say an opposition candidate running to become a local MP had attempted to file a complaint but was stopped by ruling party supporters.
