Nigerians have continued to express their displeasure over the menace of road extortion of passengers by the Men of the Nigerian Police.

They expressed that the menace is becoming unbearable during this economic hardship.

While speaking with S.A.M NEWS correspondent in their separate remarks, some eye witnesses who pleaded anonymity alleged that during their transit today along Ilorin-Ajase-Ipo expressway, a male passenger, whom they described as a young Fulani boy was instructed to come out of the vehicle they both occupied and collected the sum of six thousand naira from him without finding anything unlawful on him.

They however called on the Inspector General of Police and other commissioners of police in the country to intensify effort at ameliorating the attitude by calling them to order.

It would be recalled that the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has continued to reiterated the Force’s zero tolerance for extortion, impunity, and corruption from its officers and poised to meet the expectation of the public.

“We have had courses to tell them. We’ve gone round to give them training. And we’ll continue to improve on what we have on the ground. We pray that the Nigeria Police will meet the expectations of the police we serve.”

“However, actual and perceived impunity, corruption, extortion, and other human rights abuses are what people see we commit. Just like the discussion I was telling them that no organization, no institution deals with their home when there’s misconduct like the police. Now, there are some lacuna and it is that lacuna that the Complaint Response Unit has come to give us” said the IG.
