KWARA STATE GOVERNMENT INTENSIFIES CAMPAIGN AGAINST FLOOD

Kwara State Government has commenced sensitization
campaign against flood in the riverine areas of the state to
avert loss of lives and property, as well as prevent outbreak
of communicable diseases.
Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Buge, who
led the campaign team was on tour to Gbaradogi village in
Patigi Local Government area of the state appealed to all
affected people in the area to relocate to the Internally
Displaced Persons, IDP camp, provided by the state
government to avoid disaster.
While warning them against river travelling during rainy
seasons to prevent boat mishaps, Hajia Buge stressed the
importance of obtaining necessary approvals from relevant
government agencies before embarking on any constructions
and as well avoid building houses close to or on waterways.
The Commissioner reaffirmed government’s determination
to continue to provide necessary relief and support for
affected communities, while also encouraging sustainable
living practices.
