Reactions Trail Tinubu’s Action In Rivers State

Nigerians have began to react to the National broadcast of her president, Bola Tinubu on Tuesday, following his decision to declare state of emergency in Rivers State amid unresolved political challenge being experienced recently.

Some eminent Nigerians as at the time of filing in this story included former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former Aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, former aide to Ex-President, Mr Reno Omokri who all expressed their opinions on the development.

Reeks Of Political Manipulation And Outright Bad Faith – Atiku

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, lambasted President Bola Tinubu for declaring a state of emergency in Rivers State.

The former VP blamed the president for the crisis in Rivers, accusing him of being a Partisan actor in the political turmoil engulfing Rivers.

Atiku, who took to X to react to the development shortly after the president suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy and members of the state House of Assembly in a nationwide broadcast on Tuesday said that it is disgraceful that the president refused to stop the crisis from escalating.

“Anyone paying attention to the unfolding crisis knows that Bola Tinubu has been a vested partisan actor in the political turmoil engulfing Rivers.”

“His blatant refusal or calculated negligence in preventing this escalation is nothing short of disgraceful.”

The former Vice President said it is a failure on the part of the president that the Niger Delta region has been thrown back into era of unrest, adding that the president should bear responsibility for the bombing of pipeline infrastructure in the region.

When Children Refuse To Stop Fighting, Father Must Step In – Fani Kayode

Former minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode commended President Bola Tinubu for declaring state of emergency in River State.

Fani-Kayode in a statement on his verified Facebook handle said When children refuse to stop fighting, father must step in, applauding Tinubu’s declaration in the state.

“The declaration of a state of emergency by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Rivers state is a bold and commendable move that will return sanity to the peace and sanity of the state. I also believe this will go a long way to bringing all the major players in the conflict back to their senses. When children refuse to stop fighting the father must step in lest they burn the house down”.

“At Last, Nigeria Has A Commander-in-Chief Rather Than A Commander-at-Sleep” – Reno Omokri

Reacting to the development, Reno said “At last, Nigeria has a Commander-in-Chief rather than a Commander-at-Sleep! A President who is not just in power, but knows what to do with power”.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for declaring state of emergency in Rivers.

This Is A Threat To Democracy – CUPP

Also, the Coalition of United Political Parties has condemned President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, describing it as an unconstitutional overreach and a threat to Nigeria’s democracy.

CUPP’s National Secretary, Peter Ameh, who stated this in a statement released on Tuesday,  criticized the President’s decision to suspend Governor Siminalayi Fubara and appoint a sole administrator, arguing that such a move has no legal basis.

“The Constitution is clear: a governor can only be removed from office through impeachment by the State House of Assembly, death, resignation, or completion of tenure.

“Nowhere does it grant the President the power to suspend a governor or use a state of emergency as a political weapon,” Ameh stated.
