Senator Mustapha Draws Federal Govt’s Attention To Oko-Olowo Road, Seeks Urgent Intervention To Prevent Further Loss Of Lives

The need for the construction of a pedestrian overhead bridge with a motorcycle ramp at the Oko-Olowo Intersection on the Ilorin-Jebba Federal Highway has been emphasized.

Lawmaker representing Kwara Central at the National Assembly, Abuja, Senator Saliu Mustapha moved the motion Tuesday, at the plenary session as a matter of public urgency.

Senator Mustapha clarified that the intersection, located between Ilorin South and West Local Government Areas of Kwara State, serves as a gateway for the movement of goods and people between Northern and South-Western Nigeria.

He emphasized that despite its importance, it lacks essential safety features, making it hazardous for pedestrians and motorists.

The lawmaker lamented that over 50 lives have been lost between November 2023 and January 2024, including a tragic incident in November that claimed 25 lives.

At the floor of the house while reiterating his commitment towards advocating issues that enhance public safety and contributing to the growth of Kwara Central and the nation at large, however urged the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Works, to include the construction of the pedestrian bridge and motorcycle ramp as part of the ongoing efforts to rehabilitate the Ilorin-Jebba Federal Highway and urgently commence its immediate construction to prevent further loss of lives and ensure public safety.
