Waberi Sends Nigeria Out Of FIFA Council
Pinnick, who had served on FIFA’s highest decision-making body since 2021 had strived hard to extend his tenure.
Former President of Nigeria Football Federation, (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has on Wednesday been voted out of the FIFA Council.
Djibouti’s Souleiman Waberi who voted him out the council’s seat at the Confederation of African Football, (CAF) General Assembly in Cairo, Egypt, won the available seat with 29 votes, sending out Nigeria’s Pinnick, who secured 28 votes.
Morocco’s Fouzi Lekjaa topped the election with 49 votes, while Egypt’s Hani Rida and Niger’s Djibrilla Hamidou each polled 35 votes.
Mauritania’s Ahmed Yahya and Waberi also secured their places with 29 votes each.
Pinnick, who had served on FIFA’s highest decision-making body since 2021 had strived hard to extend his tenure.
However, in the women’s category, Kanizat Ibrahim from Comoros secured 30 votes to have a seat outpacing Lydia Nsekera who scored 13 votes and Isha Johansen secured 7 votes.
